When I started my private practice in 1989, I followed some innovative, yet traditional ways to stay in touch with my patients.

  1. We sent out post card reminders that patients are due for their periodic examination and cleaning. We found that if the patient filled out their own address, in their own handwritting that the response to the reminder postcard went up dramatically — perhaps because when they received the card they recognized their own handwritting and accepted that as a sign they had committed to the recall (recare) appointment.
